Real-World Testing of ABWEHR Door Performance
Lampre coating, hinges tested for 250,000 operating cycles, EI 30 fire resistance, galvanized steel, and production quality control. We explain what lies behind the technical specifications of ABWEHR doors and what these indicators mean in real-world use.
Durability and reliability can only be assessed through measurable indicators.
Materials, components, and finished structures undergo various types of testing. Material properties are verified by their manufacturers. Finished structures are tested by certified laboratories. Serially produced doors undergo quality control at the ABWEHR factory.
Let us examine what the key figures in door specifications mean.
Hinges Tested for 250,000 Operating Cycles
Hinges continuously support the weight of the door leaf and withstand the loads generated when the door moves. Their quality determines how smoothly the door opens and how stable the structure remains.
The ball-bearing hinges used by ABWEHR in the relevant configurations are rated for 250,000 opening and closing cycles.
At 20 cycles per day, this equates to approximately 34 years of operation. This calculation indicates the hinges’ strength reserve but does not determine their exact service life. The actual lifespan also depends on the weight of the door leaf, installation quality, frequency of use, and maintenance.
In configurations with three hinges, the load is distributed across three mounting points. This helps maintain the correct position of the door leaf and the stable geometry of the door assembly.
Lampre Coating and Protection for Outdoor Use
Lampre is a metal material with a protective and decorative coating applied during the material’s manufacturing process.
The base material is galvanized steel. The outer film creates an additional barrier against moisture, corrosion, and ultraviolet radiation. This is particularly important for exterior doors that are constantly exposed to sunlight, precipitation, and temperature fluctuations.
The coating helps preserve the colour and integrity of the surface. It withstands everyday mechanical stress and does not require complicated maintenance. A soft cloth and neutral, non-abrasive cleaning products are sufficient for cleaning.
EI 30 Fire Resistance for 30 Minutes
TD-2 technical doors in the EI-30 configuration have certified fire resistance for 30 minutes.
E — Integrity. The door assembly prevents flames and hot gases from passing through.
I — Thermal insulation. The temperature on the side not exposed to fire remains within the specified limits.
During certification testing, the complete door assembly is installed in a special test structure and subjected to standardized fire exposure. The laboratory monitors how long it maintains its integrity and thermal insulation performance.
The entire door assembly is tested, including the door leaf, frame, seals, hinges, locks, and other components. Therefore, the EI 30 rating applies to a specific certified configuration.
Zinc Protection and the 250 g/m² Rating
Selected ABWEHR product ranges use galvanized steel with a zinc coating weight of up to 250 g/m².
This value indicates the amount of zinc applied per square metre of metal. The zinc layer protects the steel substrate and slows the development of corrosion.
For painted components, a zinc-rich primer containing more than 70% zinc is used. It creates an additional protective layer between the metal and the outer coating.
Galvanized steel and zinc-rich primer perform different functions. The specific protection system depends on the door range, surface material, and type of finish.
Production Quality Control
Before shipment, doors undergo production quality control at the ABWEHR factory.
The inspection covers the operation of the locking system, smooth movement of the locking bolts, alignment of the door leaf, geometry of the door assembly, and overall assembly quality.
Certain component-processing operations are performed with an accuracy of up to 0.1 mm. This helps ensure the correct positioning of structural elements and uniform contact between the seals and the door assembly around its entire perimeter.
ABWEHR operates in accordance with the ISO 9001:2015 quality management system. The characteristics of materials, components, and finished structures are supported by the relevant certificates, declarations, and test reports.
A hinge rating of 250,000 operating cycles, EI 30 fire resistance, a zinc coating weight of up to 250 g/m², and processing accuracy of up to 0.1 mm are specific technical parameters. These measurable indicators make it possible to assess the quality of a door objectively.
